Quality of Chinese Products

Because of the recent move for product recalls and contamination scandals, the government of China is conducting an aggressive campaign clean up and recovers its reputation as a trading powerhouse. The Communist government is taking an offensive stance in defending their export efforts through the accusations of protectionism, negligence of multinationals, sensationalism and fault finding done by the United States. An estimated 300,000 Chinese made products manufactured for children have been recalled due to suspicions of high levels of lead content.

As an example of an attack made by the Chinese government against the United States products was the allegation that soybeans from the latter country contained pesticides, noxious weeds, and soil. The amount of such substances can be approximated with the aid of a measuring microscope. Another allegation was that 272 heart peacemakers produced by the United States have failed to meet safety standards. Safety and quality control inspection measures may be done with the employment of a measuring microscope that allows the inspection of minute particles and their quantification.

However, it is still a public opinion that these Chinese products are posing health hazards. Another concern was that it not only the international market that was affected. Even the Chinese consumers themselves are the biggest victims of such fake or substandard products.

It is speculated that the cause of such poor quality of goods were driven by the efforts of boosting exports that will ultimately lead to industrial growth and increase of employment for the Chinese people. Other culprits for such poor quality are linked to corruption and lenient regulations.

However, despite the scandals on toxic residues, there has been no observation of curtailment of foreign demand for Chinese manufactured goods such as food, toys, clothing, drugs and toothpaste, among others. In fact, there is still the steady increase for the demand of sophisticated Chinese products on the global market. China is seizing the market share for consumer electronic products to supertankers because they meet international standards for safety. With the help of measuring microscope, electronic products can be assessed for measuring, production, and quality.

Furthermore, in view of such quality control concerns, the Chinese government is set to establish its first database on the inspection and quarantine of imports and exports in order to keep producers informed with the latest safety requirements. This database shall include technical and safety requirements available for various types of goods produced in China. Furthermore, the information on the database shall also contain English translation in order to cater to foreign authorities and importers.

The Chinese administration kicked off their work with the keying in of information on 4,000 different products. However, no reports about when such database shall be ready for public access.

The administration said it had started preliminary work on the database, using information on 4,000 different products. But it did not say when it will be ready for use. This database is one of the efforts that the government is taking in order to clean up China’s name caused by the recall of their products.
